Italian Job

I spent the morning at Acqua Cucine on King West sourcing for a few bathrooms I have on the go and generally getting a serious helping of exquisite Italian design with a side of the rest of the inspired EU. Gawd – they know what they are doing.  Somehow, a sink is no longer a sink – it is a basin; vanities are furniture; the lavatory becomes the bagno. It is all like poetry.

Here are some of my most recent Italian crushes:

Falper makes my heart beat a little faster. I love their floating storage, furniture and flawless finishes. It all feels like really delicious architecture – form supporting function senza the superfluous.

Toscoquattro. Stunning. How can we redesign the basin? Let me count the ways. The discreet storage has me guilty with envy. And the way the product is styled…gush.

Who knew? There is a stone mined in Algonquin that looks like oiled walnut. Wouldn’t kid about such a fantastic find. Of course, we (as in Canadians) are currently selling it all to the Italians because they know what to do with it – taking weighty slabs and slicing them into ¼ veneer for cabinet and counter top facing. Insane. I think I just met my new kitchen countertops. Hello, countertops! Now to convince the small quarry to sell to a Canadian.
