Great design lives in the details. Indeed. Your fixture and finish selections influence or set all together the design direction of a space and they tend to live longer than the more decorative bits, like furniture, we usually outlast. Faucets are fixtures and aren’t an exception.
Brad Campeau, a designer and architect’s consultant at Masco Canada, one of the world’s largest manufacturer of brand name products for home – including faucets – gives us the low down on what is in new in taps.
Now Trending
“Colour blocking is a trend that has moved from fashion to interiors,” explains Campeau. And the trend is translating itself in faucets. “The Delta Fuse kitchen faucet has caught a lot of attention because it’s available in red, white and black.”
“(And) New luxury finishes really add an instant aura of sophistication to kitchens and bathrooms,” says Campeau. Faucets are newly available in matte black and white finishes
Splurge or Spend?
“I’m all about saving money in the long-run,” says Campeau. “Buying a cheap faucet might save money today but you’ll have to spend more to replace it. Look for faucets that come with warranties to ensure you get high-quality parts.” Sound advice.
Fixtures like faucets are rarely on sale but waiting to purchase a number of faucets at once could mean economies of scale. And always, always ask for the very best price, regardless of whether you are buying one piece or many. It doesn’t hurt and there is almost always wiggle room.
As for the ‘must have’ – “It is worth every dollar to splurge on a touch or hands-free faucet,” says Campeau. “Not only is it convenient but it makes it easy to turn water off between tasks so you can save water – which, of course, also saves you money.” Brilliant.
