It is a snap to predict what colour the industry will ask us to fall madly, deeply for. This year, it’s orange.
It almost always starts in fashion – little pops like maybe a mango scarf or citrus belt and then evolves into a greater commitment like part of a pattern and eventually, there is no escaping it – you are buying your winter coat in sweet tangerine.
The design world is a little less obvious and definitely more cautious. Afterall, our design investments tend to be pricier and more complicated to ‘take off’.
Orange is fresh and sunny – just what we are ready for after a grey and ho hum winter. But I have to share – I was at a loss with this one. I can layer colour with the best of them but orange has always felt a little dated to me, not to mention bold and overwhelming. It wasn’t until I received an email from my NY bestie Michael Kors showing orange as a must have neutral (?!?) that a bright light turned on. It really does go with everything.
I always suggest to clients who are looking to stay on trend to do so lightly. Accessories abound right now – throws, vases, fun objets – in the colour of the season. Start there.
